Mom Side Hustle
How I Started Making Money Online as a Busy Mom (And How You Can Too)
When I first thought about starting a side hustle, I did what most moms do — I talked myself out of it before I even started. No time, wrong skills, can't afford to fail. What I didn't realize is that I was already sitting on everything I needed. My experience as a mom, my knowledge, and a few free platforms were enough to get started.
Step 1: Pick ONE Platform and Start There
The biggest mistake new online entrepreneurs make is trying to be everywhere at once. I started with Etsy because the barrier to entry is low, the audience is already there, and digital products mean zero inventory and zero shipping. You create something once and it sells over and over again.
Good starting options for moms:
- Etsy — digital downloads, printables, print-on-demand products
- Stan Store — digital products, guides, and simple funnels
- TikTok Shop — affiliate products you already love and use
Step 2: Sell What You Already Know
You don't need to be a business expert or a tech genius. You need to know something another mom would pay to learn or have. Think about what people ask you for advice on. That knowledge — packaged into a PDF, a guide, a printable, or a short course — is a sellable product.
"Your knowledge is a product waiting to be sold. You just haven't packaged it yet."
Step 3: Use Affiliate Marketing to Earn Without Creating
Affiliate marketing is one of the most underrated income streams for moms, because it requires no product creation. You simply recommend products you already use and earn a commission when someone buys through your link. I personally use and recommend 1st Phorm supplements — it's income that runs in the background while I'm studying and living my life.
The key: only promote things you genuinely use and believe in. Your audience can tell the difference.
Step 4: Show Up Consistently — Not Perfectly
Building an online income isn't about going viral. It's about showing up consistently enough that people start to trust you. I don't post every single day. I don't have a massive following. But I show up regularly with real content from my real life, and that consistency has built something I'm genuinely proud of.
Step 5: Stack Your Income Streams Over Time
Build one stream, stabilize it, then add another. Here's what that looks like in real life:
Set up your Etsy shop or Stan Store. List 3–5 products.
Add affiliate marketing to your social content.
Start building your email list with a free lead magnet.
Consider a paid challenge, mini-course, or coaching offer.
The version of you reading this right now has more than enough to get started. You have experience, you have a story, and you have access to the same free platforms that have helped thousands of moms build real income from home. You don't need to wait until you feel ready. You just need to start.
